Checklist of things to do before photographing the property.
Generally, the property should be clean and organized without clutter. The more one can make the property look like new, the better it will be. Below are some of the things to check for. Make sure the property looks as new and as clean and orderly as possible.
- Remove as much clutter from the house as possible, that includes all rooms
- Clear countertops of all items; the fewer things on the countertops, the better
- Pots, pans and dishes should all be put away
- All carpets should be vacuumed. Stains will show, so remove stains if possible
- Floors that are not carpeted should be cleaned
- Light fixtures should have all of the bulbs in working order
- Bathrooms should not have towels hanging unless they are decorative
- All personal bathroom items should be put out of sight
- All surfaces in the bathroom should be clean and ready to show
- Bedrooms should be clear of any visible clothing or personal items
- Closets should be well organized and everything in its place
- Furniture throughout the house should be dust free and clear of unnecessary items
- Mirrors should be cleaned, and items removed from in front of them
- Windows should be cleaned, and window dressing should be neat and presentable
- Torn screens should be repaired or removed
- Small throw-rugs should be removed wherever possible
- Yards should be clear of tools, toys or anything that might look out of place
- Lawns should be as manicured as possible
- Property should be photographed without vehicles in driveway or in front of house
- Trash cans should be properly stowed
- Walkways and driveways should be clear of debris
- Trees and bushes should be neatly trimmed
The subject property should show as if it were a staged model property, with no one living there.
