Not all properties benefit from aerial photographs or aerial videos. In fact, in some cases, an aerial photograph or videos may detract from the property because it may show unflattering features. Below are some examples.
- Relative closeness to the neighbor’s house.
- Unkept properties adjacent to the subject property.
- Power lines close by that may be unsightly.
- A street in close proximity to the subject property that may give the illusion of being a busy and noisy street, when perhaps it may not be.
- An alley with debris and trash cans.
- A house with many tall trees that obstruct views of the house from the air.
Although some of these undesirable things may not necessarily dissuade a potential buyer from purchasing the subject property once the buyer has actually seen it in person, it may motivate potential buyers to look at other properties first, or even bypass this one altogether after seeing unflattering images of the property on the Internet.
It is always best to focus on the strengths of the subject property and show those strengths in the best possible way; more isn’t always better. If there is good reason for aerial photographs or videos, by all means, lets take those awesome photos and videos. However, in photographing a property, one has to asses what an aerial perspective is really going to accomplish from a marketing point of view.
